The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has announced a postponement for the mandatory olive harvest declaration. Following a proposal by Deputy Minister Giannis Andrianos, Minister Margaritis Schoinas issued a decision to modify the existing framework to allow producers more time to adapt to new requirements.

The obligation for legal holders of olive groves to submit harvest declarations will now take effect on October 1, 2027. This means the 2026-2027 harvest period will not be subject to the new mandatory regime. To facilitate a smooth transition, a grace period has been established, ensuring that administrative sanctions and penalties will not be imposed before October 1, 2028.

A primary driver for this extension is the need for producers to update the Olive Tree Registry. This registry requires accurate data regarding the number of trees, variety, area, location, and geospatial characteristics of each plot, which must be cross-referenced with other official databases. The decision will enter into force upon its publication in the Government Gazette.
