Greece prepared for all scenarios regarding Turkey, says Gerapetritis
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated that Greece is prepared for all possible scenarios regarding its relations with Turkey, while emphasizing that the government does not expect or desire an armed conflict.
Speaking in an interview with Sky TV, Gerapetritis noted that despite increased tensions, communication channels between Athens and Ankara remain open through the structured dialogue established by the Athens Declaration three years ago. He asserted that the current situation does not mirror the severe crises of the past and that there is no immediate risk of tensions escalating into a physical confrontation on the ground.
Gerapetritis maintained that while Greece seeks regional peace and stability, it will not compromise on its sovereign rights, including issues related to grey zones, the demilitarization of islands, and the unilateral right to expand territorial waters to 12 nautical miles. He cautioned against bellicose rhetoric from various actors, stating that true strength lies in diplomatic presence, defense resilience, and economic stability rather than mere verbal escalation.
