Greece prepares economic measures to combat inflation and energy costs

The Greek government is preparing economic measures focused on addressing the cost of living, energy costs, and taxation ahead of the upcoming IMF meetings. High priority is being placed on supporting the middle class against inflation.

To mitigate energy costs, officials are considering measures to reduce electricity bills over the next three years, potentially utilizing a €1.5 billion energy resilience escape clause to create fiscal space through 2028. Additionally, the government aims to control supermarket prices through a National Price Reduction Agreement and is monitoring rising wheat prices that impact the supply chain.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's administration is also looking at permanent income enhancement as a primary defense against inflation.
