Greece prioritizes EU enlargement and fiscal stability ahead of 2027 Presidency

Greek officials have outlined key priorities regarding the nation's upcoming roles in the European Union and domestic governance. Deputy Foreign Minister Tassos Hatzivasileiou expressed Greece's support for an ambitious EU budget for the 2028-2034 period, known as the Multiannual Financial Framework. He emphasized that EU enlargement remains a top priority for the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, scheduled for the second half of 2027. During a meeting in Dublin, Hatzivasileiou also met with Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister, Christina Gerasimof, reaffirming Greece's support for Moldova's European integration efforts.

Separately, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of fiscal stability during a press conference at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair. Mitsotakis stated that the government's social support measures are strictly costed and fully implementable due to the country's economic performance. He also noted that the country aims to have a majority government following the elections scheduled for the spring of 2027, highlighting that a stable government is essential as Greece prepares to assume the EU Presidency in July 2027.
