Greece proposes 12-month extension for street market vendor allocation

An amendment submitted to a bill by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection proposes extending the process for recording, allocating, and announcing positions in street markets for up to 12 months.

Under the new regulation, the initial four-month period for mapping and recording positions by recognized primary vendor associations will be extended to seven months. From the eighth month, the posting of lists and the objection process will begin. By the twelfth month, the validation of final lists and the allocation of positions must be completed.

Regional authorities, including those in the Attica Region and the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Unit, will announce and declare vacant positions with a 50%-50% distribution between producers and professional vendors. If the processes are not completed within the 12-month period, jurisdiction will transfer to the Ministry of Development.
