Greece proposes mandatory digital registry for farmers

The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has introduced a draft law to reform the Registry of Farmers and Agricultural Holdings (MAAE). Under the proposed regulations, registration in the MAAE will become mandatory for those seeking to submit the Single Application for Support (EAE) to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

The new digital MAAE will be interconnected with the Integrated Administration and Control System (OSDE) and other public information systems, including those of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy. This interconnection aims to create a unified digital footprint of agricultural activities by aggregating data on registered users, including alphanumeric and geospatial data of their holdings.

Registration will be conducted annually through a digital service using TaxisNet credentials, with electronic certificates issued via the gov.gr portal. For professional farmers, status will be automatically assigned by pulling data from interconnected systems, though individuals will have the right to file objections. The draft law is currently undergoing public consultation until September 7, 2026.
