Greece proposes staffing changes for municipal childcare centers

A new amendment submitted to the Greek Parliament aims to reform the staffing framework for municipal daycare, nursery, and integrated care centers. The proposal seeks to resolve practical issues arising from the implementation of the new Local Government Code and facilitate the transition to a unified recruitment system via ASEP.

The amendment expands the types of permanent positions that can be created, specifically including Integrated Care Nursery Centers (BSOF). New specialized roles will be introduced, including University Education (PE) positions for Kindergarten Teachers and Occupational Therapists, Technical Education (TE) for Occupational Therapists, and Secondary Education (DE) roles for Welfare Personnel (Social Caretakers) and Early Childhood Education Assistants.

Additionally, the amendment extends the deadline for municipalities to adjust their Internal Service Organizations from November 30, 2026, to January 15, 2027. It also allows for the renewal of contracts related to the program for promoting preschool education inclusion through the 2028-2029 school year, though these cannot be converted into permanent contracts.
