Greece pushes affordable summer travel options as vacation costs climb

Facing sharply higher ferry fares and pricey island accommodations, Greek travellers are turning to low‑cost alternatives for the 2025 summer season. Options highlighted include agritourism farms where guests work the land for about €50 per day, organised camping sites on islands such as Samothrace and Evia with five‑day packages around €100‑120, free‑stay couch‑surfing and house‑sitting arrangements, and mountain‑village stays that avoid peak‑season crowds and costs.

At the same time, Greek ferry operator Minoan Lines is promoting family‑friendly cruise‑ferry packages to Heraklion, Crete and Milos. Fares for two adults and two children start at €396 for economy seats and €424 for a four‑cabin, with discounts of up to 50% for students, large families, unemployed travellers and seniors over 60. The service features modern vessels, expanded dining options and a certified Cretan menu, aiming to combine affordability with comfort for domestic holidaymakers.
