Greece pushes for strong, flexible funding in new CAP 2028‑2034

Greek officials at the third session of the National Dialogue in Patras outlined their priorities for the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) covering 2028‑2034. The Ministry of Rural Development and Food called for a well‑funded, flexible policy that reflects the particular conditions of Greek agriculture, including small fragmented holdings, island and mountainous regions, and heightened livestock needs.

Deputy Minister Giannis Andrianos said the aim is to secure farmers’ incomes, boost competitiveness, modernise farms, enhance climate resilience, improve water management and bio‑security, attract new entrants and preserve rural communities. He stressed that “more flexibility cannot mean less Europe.” The government cited €21 million of EU support for fertilizer expenses and an additional €40 million from national resources, arguing that predictable financing is essential for the sector’s future.
