Greece ranks among top ten global retirement destinations

Greece has been ranked among the top ten global destinations for retirement in the 2026 Global Citizen Solutions index. The country is recognized for its quality of life and mobility opportunities, despite challenges regarding taxation.

In the global rankings, Uruguay rose to the top position, displacing previous winner Portugal. While Europe remains a strong contender with six countries in the top ten—including Spain, Portugal, Latvia, Andorra, Italy, and Greece—the region faces impacts from high taxation. The index evaluated 46 residency programs based on factors such as quality of life, ease of movement, citizenship requirements, tax frameworks, bureaucracy, and cost of living.
