Greek Ministry re-issues licenses to Keele and York universities

The Greek Ministry of Education has re-issued operating licenses to The University of Keele and the University of York (City - European Branch) following recent decisions by the Council of State that had previously canceled them. The new decision, signed by Deputy Minister Nikos Papaioannou, follows a renewed administrative process intended to ensure compliance with the highest court's rulings.

The move has drawn significant criticism from legal experts and political opposition. Law professor Panagiotis Lazaratos questioned the timing of the re-issuance, suggesting the Ministry acted with unusual haste before the Council of State's decisions were fully finalized. Opposition parties, including PASOK, have characterized the action as a disregard for institutional legality.

While Keele and York have regained their status, Anatolia College remains under re-evaluation by a new three-member committee. The ongoing situation has left approximately 700 students in a state of uncertainty regarding the validity of their studies and the potential loss of an academic year.
