Greece reaffirms support for Colombia peace process at UN
During a UN Security Council meeting on October 12, Greece's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Aglaia Balta, reaffirmed Greece's support for the 2016 Peace Agreement in Colombia. Greece is currently serving as the rotating president of the Security Council for the month of October.
The session included updates from Miroslav Jenča, the UN Special Representative for Colombia, and participation from Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Boula. The discussions took place ahead of the upcoming expiration of the UN Verification Mission's mandate on October 31.
Ambassador Balta condemned the violence perpetrated by armed groups, specifically noting the use of new technologies such as drone attacks and the exploitation of social media for child recruitment. She also expressed concern regarding ongoing insecurity in conflict-affected areas and violence against social leaders, ethnic communities, and former combatants.
