Greece reclassified as a developed market by FTSE Russell
Greece has officially transitioned from emerging to developed market status according to a new classification by FTSE Russell. This reclassification marks a significant shift for Euronext Athens, moving the Greek stock market into the category of mature markets.
The new indices are expected to take effect on September 21, with a rebalancing scheduled for the close of the session on September 18. Various Greek companies will be integrated into different index tiers:
- FTSE Mid Cap: Includes Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank, GEK TERNAs, OTE, DEI, Allwyn, Cenergy, and Viohalco. - Small Cap: Includes companies such as Aegean Airlines, Athens Airport, EYDAP, Avax, and Jumbo. - Micro Cap: Includes various smaller entities such as Bank of Greece, Fourlis, and Kri-Kri.
Additionally, several major companies, including Alpha Bank, Eurobank, and National Bank of Greece, will be included in the FTSE All-World index.
