More than 5,000 lightning strikes were recorded across Greece on Tuesday, August 18. Data from the Meteosat-12 meteorological satellite's Lightning Imager shows the activity was concentrated in central Greece and the Peloponnese, particularly in mountainous mainland areas.
Weather forecasts for Wednesday indicate generally clear skies with some clouds. Localized showers are expected in mountainous regions of the mainland and Crete, with isolated thunderstorms possible in central Greece, eastern Macedonia, and Thrace. Temperatures are expected to remain stable, ranging between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius in most areas, reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius in some mainland locations.
