Greece records ten femicides in eight months
Greece has recorded ten femicides in the first eight months of 2026, following a fatal attack in Rodopi on August 26. This incident occurred only four days after another femicide in Nea Smyrni.
In the Rodopi case, the victim had previously filed a lawsuit against her husband for threats in 2022, resulting in his arrest at the time. The recurring nature of these crimes, often involving partners or family members with histories of domestic violence, has raised significant concerns regarding the effectiveness of state protection measures and existing prevention tools like the ‘panic button’.
