Greece implements pension boosts and rent payment delays
Greece is implementing several significant economic and social policy changes. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has officially postponed the mandatory requirement for rent payments to be made exclusively via bank transfers until July 1, 2027. This delay is intended to allow for the completion of technical system integrations and to provide sufficient time for landlords and tenants to adapt to the new digital tracking process.
In terms of social support, approximately 2.2 million pensioners are set to receive a one-time annual financial boost of 400 euros. This measure, which removes previous income thresholds, applies to those over 65 who meet specific age and pension type criteria. Additionally, pensions are projected to increase by approximately 2.7% starting in January 2027, based on a formula combining economic growth and inflation rates.
Labor and tax reforms are also underway. The government plans to introduce seven tax reliefs for self-employed professionals by 2027, aiming to eliminate arbitrary income presumptions through increased digitalization. Furthermore, the expansion of the Digital Work Card will include new sectors such as private healthcare, telecommunications, and logistics. For private sector employees, a reduction in social security contributions is expected to increase net wages for approximately 2.5 million workers starting in April 2027.
