Greece rent refund: Deadline for tax declaration corrections is September 30

Approximately one million renters in Greece have until September 30 to correct errors or omissions in their E1 tax declarations to ensure they receive the annual rent refund subsidy. The subsidy, which is expected to be paid automatically by the end of November, corresponds to 1/12 of the total annual rent paid during 2025.

Key instructions for taxpayers include ensuring that the total annual rent amount is declared in Table 6 (codes 811-816 for primary residences and 817-822 for student housing) rather than the monthly rent. Additionally, the Lease Information Statement number must be correctly recorded in codes 081-083 or 084-086 to prevent blocking the data verification process. In cases where multiple tenants or landlords are involved, the annual expense must be distributed proportionally.

The maximum refund for a primary residence is 800 euros, with an additional 50 euros for each dependent child. For student housing, the limit is also 800 euros per student. Failure to rectify errors, such as incorrect IBAN details or missing lease information, may result in a partial or total loss of the subsidy.
