Greece rent refund: Eligibility and deadlines for tenants
Approximately one million tenants in Greece, including those in primary and student residences, are eligible for a rent refund program. To ensure eligibility, tenants must verify their E1 tax declaration and electronic rental records by September 30. Key details to check include tax declaration codes, the total annual rent amount (rather than monthly), and the correct IBAN for bank transfers.
The refund amount is calculated as 1/12 of the total annual rent paid, provided the amounts were correctly declared. For primary residences, the subsidy can reach up to 800 euros, with an additional 50 euros for each dependent child. Households paying for both a primary residence and a student residence may be eligible for separate refunds for both, subject to meeting specific requirements.
Eligibility is determined by income thresholds, which are set at 20,000 euros for single individuals and 30,000 euros for married individuals. Certain professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and teachers, may qualify for different categories of assistance.
