Greece announces rent refund rules and pension schedules
In Greece, several updates regarding social benefits and pensions have been announced.
Regarding rent refunds, the deadline for taxpayers to ensure their data is correctly reflected in their tax declarations is September 30. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will use these finalized details to calculate automatic payments scheduled for November. The refund is calculated as 1/12 of the total rent paid in 2025, with a maximum cap of 800 euros, which increases by 50 euros for each dependent child. Eligibility is determined by expanded income and property criteria: single individuals without dependents have an income limit of 25,000 euros, married couples 35,000 euros (plus 5,000 euros per child), and single-parent families 39,000 euros (plus 5,000 euros for each child beyond the first).
Regarding pensions, e-EFKA has released the October 2026 payment schedule. Payments for former non-salaried funds (OAEE, OGA, ETAA) and certain private sector pensions will be available starting September 25. Main pensions for former salaried funds (IKA-ETAM, etc.) and public sector pensions will be processed on September 29. Additionally, specific provisions allow certain insured individuals in heavy or unhealthy professions to retire as early as age 55 or 60, depending on their total insurance days and specific category requirements.
