Greece rent subsidy: Deadline for tax corrections is September 30

Approximately one million renters in Greece have until September 30, 2026, to correct errors or omissions in their tax returns to ensure they receive the scheduled rent subsidy. The subsidy, which is expected to be paid in late November 2026, is calculated automatically by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) based on the 2025 rental expenses declared in the E1 tax form.

The assistance amount corresponds to 1/12 of the total annual rent paid during 2025. For primary residences, the subsidy can reach up to 800 euros, with an additional 50 euros for each dependent child. Separate subsidies of up to 800 euros are also available for student housing.

Renters are urged to verify specific details, including the electronic lease number, the correct IBAN for payments, and the accuracy of the rental amounts reported in E1 codes 811-816 (primary residence) or 817-822 (student housing). Failure to rectify discrepancies before the September 30 deadline may result in a partial or total loss of the benefit. The number of eligible recipients has increased by approximately 70,000 compared to last year due to expanded income criteria.
