Greece rent refund: Deadline for E1 tax return corrections
The deadline for taxpayers in Greece to correct their E1 tax returns to qualify for rent refunds expires at midnight on Wednesday, September 30. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) will use the finalized data to automatically calculate subsidies for over one million eligible renters.
Renters are advised to carefully review Table 6 of the E1 form. Specifically, codes 811-816 must reflect the total annual rent paid for a primary residence, while codes 817-822 are for student housing. A common error is entering the monthly rent amount instead of the total annual sum. Additionally, the number of the Lease Information Statement must be correctly recorded.
The refund, which corresponds to 1/12 of the total annual rent paid, is expected to be deposited during the last ten days of November. For primary residences, the maximum refund is 800 euros, plus an additional 50 euros for each dependent child. For student housing, the cap is also 800 euros per student. A separate scheme has already provided two months of rent to approximately 17,000 educators and healthcare workers in the Greek regions.
