Greece rental tax exemption deadline set for 2026

Property owners in Greece face a critical deadline to secure a three-year income tax exemption on rental earnings. To qualify for this incentive, owners must transition properties—including those currently vacant or used for short-term rentals like Airbnb—into the long-term leasing market.

The current tax-free window is set to expire on December 31, 2026. While there have been proposals to extend this measure beyond 2026, no official decision has been made. Final determinations regarding an extension are expected toward the end of the year, likely coinciding with the submission of the 2027 state budget to Parliament.

The primary objective of this temporary measure is to increase the supply of available housing by encouraging more properties to enter the long-term rental market.
