Greece reports 27 bomb threats against aircraft in a single day
Greek Civil Aviation Governor Grigoris Konstantellos has addressed a wave of 27 bomb threats directed at aircraft on Thursday, November 5. While bomb threats are a recurring issue in Europe, with an average of one to two incidents per week, the occurrence of 27 threats within a single day is considered an unusual and coordinated event.
Konstantellos characterized the situation as a hybrid threat intended to create a climate of fear and insecurity among citizens and disrupt the aviation system. He noted that while no explosive devices were found, all necessary security protocols and inspections were activated. The threats caused significant disruption, including flight diversions to alternative airports.
Two aircraft from a Greek airline were specifically affected by the crisis. These flights were nearing their destinations when the threats were made, but they ultimately completed their journeys safely. Konstantellos emphasized that flight crews and air traffic controllers are well-trained to manage such emergencies.
