Greece reports 4.9% rise in farm output prices and 13.3% surge in industrial import prices for May
ELSTAT data show that Greece's General Output Price Index for Agriculture and Livestock rose 4.9% in May 2026 compared with May 2025. The increase came from a 4.9% rise in plant‑production prices, especially vegetables and horticulture, and a similar rise in animal‑production prices. On a month‑to‑month basis the index fell 4.0% from April.
The General Import Price Index for Industry recorded a 13.3% year‑on‑year increase in May, driven primarily by a sharp rally in oil prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East. Sub‑indices showing the biggest jumps were petroleum production and refining (+74%) and crude oil and natural gas extraction (+40.8%). Prices for electricity, gas, steam and air‑conditioning rose 13.2%, and basic metals rose 12%. Compared with April, the overall industrial import index fell 5%, with crude oil and gas extraction down 17.2% and electricity/gas/steam down 6.6% on a monthly basis.
