Greece implements pension reforms and faces digital tender scrutiny

Greece is implementing several significant policy changes and administrative updates. In the digital sector, the Digital Policy Sector of ELAS has raised concerns regarding a new international tender by the Ministry of Digital Governance for digital infrastructure. Valued at up to 102 million euros for the next five years, the tender received only one bid from the same business group that held the previous 2021–2026 contract, leading to warnings about potential technological dependency and a lack of competition.

Regarding social welfare, Minister of Labor and Social Security Niki Kerameus announced the restoration of survivor pensions. A new legislative regulation abolishes previous cuts that saw pensions drop from 70% to 35% after three years. This move aims to protect over 75,000 retirees and restores benefits to 8,500 individuals who had already experienced reductions.

Additionally, deadlines are approaching for Greek housing programs. By August 31, 2026, critical stages for the ‘Home Renovation’ and ‘My Home II’ programs will conclude. Specifically, the deadline for issuing eligibility certificates for closed properties under the renovation program is August 31, while the deadline for signing loan agreements for approved ‘My Home II’ beneficiaries is also approaching.
