Greece reports significant rises in industrial and service producer prices
Data from ELSTAT indicates significant inflationary pressures across various sectors of the Greek economy. In the services sector, the Producer Price Index rose by 5.9% on an annual basis for the second quarter of 2026. Notable increases were observed in architectural and engineering services at 17.8%, catering at 9.8%, and accommodation at 6.9%. Additionally, rising costs in transport and logistics may trigger a secondary transmission mechanism, potentially increasing costs for other businesses.
In the industrial sector, the General Producer Price Index saw a substantial annual increase of 14.9% in August 2026, compared to a 1.7% decrease in the same period the previous year. This surge was driven largely by a 29.7% increase in the Producer Price Index for the external market and an 8.9% increase for the domestic market. Monthly data also showed a 2.1% rise in industrial producer prices in August 2026 compared to July 2026.
