Greece: Requirements for updating information with new ID cards

Following the issuance of new Greek identity cards, citizens are advised to update their personal information across various services to avoid administrative issues. While old blue police IDs remain valid for domestic transactions within Greece, they are no longer recognized as valid travel documents for international travel, including within the Schengen Area, as of August 3, 2026.

To ensure seamless service, individuals should update their details with banks, insurance companies, mobile and internet providers, and utility companies such as PPC (DEI) and EYDAP. Additionally, employers should receive copies of the new ID, and users of digital payment applications like Viva Wallet or Revolut must upload photos of both sides of the new document. The Hellenic Police registers these details in the National Citizen Registry through the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Digital Governance.
