Greece requires fiscal discipline and stability to attract investment
Spiros Theodoropoulos, President of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (SEV), has identified fiscal discipline and political stability as the two essential pillars for attracting further investment to Greece. Speaking during the presentation of the EY Attractiveness Survey Greece 2026, Theodoropoulos emphasized that while the Greek economy is on a recovery path, structural weaknesses remain.
He warned against returning to the economic mistakes of the past, noting that countries with deficits will face significant challenges due to current geopolitical instability. To enhance competitiveness, Theodoropoulos highlighted the need to address industrial issues such as spatial planning, energy costs, and human capital. He specifically noted that the industrial sector currently faces 90,000 job vacancies across both technical and unskilled roles.
Furthermore, the SEV President stressed the importance of productive investments to increase national productivity per worker, aiming to close the gap with the European average. He also pointed to a stable tax framework as a key factor in improving Greece's international economic image.
