Greece rescues 34 migrants off Gavdos island

A vessel carrying 34 migrants was located about 30 nautical miles south‑southwest of the Greek island of Gavdos during a routine patrol by a Frontex aircraft. The operation was coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (EKSED) and a Greek Coast Guard ship was dispatched to collect the passengers safely. Favorable weather enabled a smooth transfer of the migrants to the port of Paleochora, Chania, where authorities will record and identify them.

The rescue involved cooperation between the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and the Greek Navy’s coast guard, highlighting ongoing maritime monitoring in the region.
