Greece restarts ‘Prolamvano’ breast cancer prevention program

Greece is relaunching the ‘Fofi Gennimata – PROLAMVANO’ breast cancer prevention program, which receives 75 million euros in annual national funding. The initiative aims to provide free digital mammographies and ultrasounds to approximately 2.38 million insured and uninsured women aged 45 to 74.

Data from the program’s first cycle shows that 267,026 women underwent digital mammography, resulting in 87,231 findings requiring further investigation. Notably, more than 6,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer at an early stage, allowing for timely treatment.

Under the new cycle, the Ministry of Health will gradually send electronic referrals via SMS to eligible women who have activated digital prescriptions. Appointments can be scheduled using an AMKA number through the proliptikes.gov.gr platform or via Mobile Health Teams in various regions.
