Greece Road Traffic Code rules on overtaking police vehicles

According to the Greek Road Traffic Code, there is no specific prohibition against overtaking a police vehicle or emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Article 21, titled "Overtaking – Traffic in Lanes," dictates that overtaking a police car is treated under the same standard regulations as any other vehicle.

Drivers are permitted to overtake a vehicle only if it can be done without risk or disrupting traffic, provided they give early warning using turn signals. While overtaking is generally done from the left, it may be done from the right if the leading driver signals a left turn and moves toward that side.

Sudden braking upon seeing a police vehicle is considered unjustified and potentially dangerous, as it increases the risk of accidents with following vehicles. Drivers must respect speed limits and are strictly prohibited from attempting an overtake when there is a continuous dividing line.
