Greece rolls out EFKA online refund service and flags IRIS payment scrutiny

The Greek Social Insurance Institute (EFKA) will soon launch an electronic application that allows employee retirees to claim refunds of contributions paid in excess of legal limits. Access will be via Taxisnet credentials, with verification through the AMKA number, eliminating the need for in‑person visits and additional paperwork. Refunds will be credited directly to the retiree’s bank account after any outstanding debts are offset.

Separately, tax authorities warn that the widely used IRIS instant‑payment system is attracting increased scrutiny. While everyday transfers between friends and family are generally acceptable, repeated high‑value transactions may trigger investigations regarding undeclared income. Tax officials advise users to provide clear transaction descriptions and retain supporting documents, especially for large sums or gift‑related payments such as wedding gifts.
