Greece rolls out nationwide e‑prescription system and digital oncology registry

The Greek Ministry of Health announced that a new electronic prescription system will be implemented in all public hospitals starting 1 July 2024. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said the platform will improve patient access to medicines, allow precise monitoring of drug consumption and support the sustainability of public budgets. Greece currently records the lowest drug shortages in Europe.

In parallel, the ministry launched a digital ecosystem for oncology and hematology care. The National Registry of Neoplastic Patients, operational since early 2025, had logged 21 488 unique patients by 5 June 2026. Built to European Network of Cancer Registries standards and linked to the European Cancer Information System, the registry provides physicians with comprehensive treatment histories, supports multidisciplinary tumour boards, incorporates AI‑driven analysis tools and offers a mobile app for patients to view their care plans and report symptoms in real time.
