Greece weather alert: Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected

Greece is bracing for significant weather changes starting Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an orange alert, predicting a cold front that will bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and frequent lightning across several regions.

The most intense phenomena are expected in Thessaly (particularly Magnesia), the Sporades, Chalkidiki, and Euboea. Some areas may experience hail and potential flooding. The weather pattern is expected to last from Tuesday morning through early Wednesday morning.

In addition to precipitation, a notable drop in temperature is forecasted, with maximum values potentially decreasing by up to 8 degrees Celsius in some areas. Winds are expected to strengthen, reaching up to 7 Beaufort in certain locations. Civil Protection authorities have placed relevant services on high alert and advised citizens, particularly those in rural areas like farmers and livestock breeders, to take necessary self-protection measures.
