Greece seeks to strengthen economic ties with UK and enhance cruise tourism

Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis has called for a transformation of the long-standing cooperation between Greece and the United Kingdom into a stronger strategic economic partnership. Speaking at the Hellenic British Chamber of Commerce 'Back-to-Business Dinner 2026', Pierrakakis highlighted the need for a new production model focused on productivity, technology, energy, and shipping. He noted that British investments in Greece reached 5.3 billion euros in 2025, with emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, higher education, and capital markets.

Separately, the shipping company MSC has outlined four priorities to advance the cruise industry in Greece. During an event held in Corfu, the company emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between cruise lines, local communities, and port authorities. MSC’s strategy includes developing new destinations over the next five years, increasing the number of local guides, upgrading passenger infrastructure to improve accessibility and heat protection, and implementing shore-to-ship power connectivity for vessels.
