Greece sees 17‑degree night‑time temperature swing across regions

On the night of 26 July 2026 Greece recorded one of its largest temperature contrasts. The coldest minimum was about 9 °C near Karpenisi, while the warmest night‑time temperature stayed above 26 °C in Lenta, Heraklion. The gap between the two locations reached 17.2 °C.

Meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou highlighted the disparity on social media, noting similar differences within metropolitan areas: in Athens, Tatoi recorded 18 °C while the New Cosmos area reached 25.3 °C, a 7.3 °C spread. In Thessaloniki, Eptapyrgio saw 22.3 °C versus 19.8 °C in Phonikas, Kalamaria. The observations illustrate Greece’s varied micro‑climates despite uniform summer conditions.
