Greece sees hotel investment surge and credit rating upgrades
Greece is experiencing significant economic shifts across the tourism and credit sectors. In the hospitality industry, a major wave of investment is expected to add over 3,000 new hotel rooms to the market during the 2026-2027 period. This expansion, driven by international groups in locations such as Athens, Crete, and the Cyclades, marks a transition toward a more mature market focused on increasing value per visitor rather than just volume.
Simultaneously, international credit rating agencies are signaling positive outlooks for the Greek economy. Scope Ratings has upgraded Greece to BBB+, while R&I and DBRS have revised their outlooks to positive. Moody’s has also maintained its rating but shifted its outlook from stable to positive. These developments suggest a path toward an 'A' category rating, supported by fiscal performance, debt reduction, and political stability.
