Greece sees rain and thunderstorms as atmospheric instability hits Attica and northern regions

Meteorologists warn that from Friday 12 June Greece will experience increased atmospheric instability, bringing rain and local thunderstorms to Attica and large parts of the mainland. The weather change, driven by cooler air masses moving from the Balkans, is expected to lower temperatures, especially in Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece and the mountainous Peloponnese, while strengthening winds in the Aegean up to 6–8 bft. The forecast, issued by forecasters including Theodoros Koludas and Olga Papavgouli, describes the situation as a typical summer instability episode rather than a uniform storm, with localized heavy rain, hail, lightning and gusts that could help reduce wildfire risk during the ongoing fire‑season. Conditions are expected to improve gradually after the weekend, though isolated showers and wind gusts may linger in higher terrain.
