Greece sees surge in hybrid and electric vehicle purchases

Rising fuel costs are driving a significant shift in the Greek automotive market toward electric and hybrid vehicles. In July, approximately 79.2% of buyers in Greece opted for hybrid or electric models. This includes 64% for standard hybrids, 7.7% for plug-in hybrids, and 7.5% for fully electric vehicles.

In contrast, the market share for traditional internal combustion engines has shrunk, with gasoline models accounting for 17.5% and diesel making up only 1%. This trend is attributed to high fuel prices, available government subsidies, and various market offers.

This shift is not limited to Greece; electric vehicle sales have seen a sharp increase across Europe, a trend accelerated by rising oil prices following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. In the European Union, electric vehicle sales increased by 40.5% during the first half of the year.
