Greece sees two severe road accidents involving power poles in June

On 27 June, a burning car in the Athens suburb of Voula struck an electricity pole, causing explosions, a power outage and a large firefighting response. No fatalities were reported, but the incident disrupted the local power network.

The following day, 28 June, a vehicle on the old Basilikis‑Theopetra road near Trikala lost control and collided violently with an old wooden power‑pole. The crash killed a 22‑year‑old passenger on the spot, while the driver was seriously injured and remains in intensive care.

Both incidents highlight the dangers of uncontrolled vehicle movements near utility infrastructure in Greece, prompting local authorities to investigate the causes and to consider safety measures for road sections adjacent to power poles.
