Greece implements new tax deadlines and economic updates

Greece is implementing several fiscal and economic updates affecting various demographics. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has extended the deadline for foreign retirees to apply for the 7% alternative taxation regime to October 31. This move aims to support those transferring their tax residence to Greece.

Taxpayers are also facing various deadlines: rent reimbursement claims require E1 tax return corrections by September 30, while those with retroactive income received in 2025 have until the end of 2026 to file amended declarations to avoid penalties. Additionally, AADE is activating automated digital processes to determine taxes for those who fail to file declarations.

On the economic front, household spending in 2025 averaged 1,820 euros per month. In the housing market, approximately 23% of Greek home purchases are financed by mortgages, with a notable increase in the 'Siti mou' program. Meanwhile, tourism from Portugal to Greece has reached record highs, with 161,720 arrivals in 2025. For 2027, pension increases are projected to range from 15 to 75 euros per month depending on the specific insurance fund and years of service.
