Greece reports divergent economic trends in wages and rentals

Greece is experiencing divergent economic trends across different sectors. In the labor market, data from EFKA indicates that while nominal wages saw a marginal increase of 0.90% in December 2025, real purchasing power is under pressure. The OECD reported a 3.6% quarterly decline in real per capita income for Greek households between January and March 2026, the largest drop among 21 surveyed countries.

Conversely, the short-term rental market has seen significant growth. According to AirDNA, revenue per available room (RevPAR) in Greece rose by 14.3% year-on-year in July, reaching 142.8 euros. This surge follows a 2% decrease in available listings due to new regulatory frameworks implemented in late 2025. Luxury accommodations saw the highest increase in occupancy rates.

Regarding environmental conditions, the National Observatory of Athens reported that soil moisture levels across much of Greece remained stable as of August 10, 2026. While some regions like Thrace and eastern Crete showed increased moisture, parts of Epirus experienced moderate to intense drought in deeper soil layers.
