Greece signs €15 million contract to relocate Kastanies border station in Evros

The Greek government signed a Strategic Importance Contract to relocate the Kastanies border station in the Evros region, budgeting €15 million for the project. The agreement involves the Ministry of Interior, the Hellenic Participation and Property Company, the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia‑Thrace and the Regional Authority of Eastern Macedonia‑Thrace.

The new facility will be a modern, fully functional border post on the Greece‑Turkey frontier, designed to meet contemporary security, border‑management, citizen‑service and international‑transport requirements. Officials said the relocation will strengthen operational capacity, improve crossing conditions, boost regional economic development and reinforce Evros as a strategic hub for cross‑border traffic.

“​We will continue to work consistently on projects that enhance the national economy, upgrade public infrastructure and highlight the pivotal role of Northern Greece as a gateway for the European Union to the Balkans and Eastern Europe,” said Dimitris Galamatis, Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia‑Thrace.
