Greece signs €23.8 million contract for seven new Coast Guard vessels
The Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy has signed a €23.8 million contract for the procurement of seven new high-speed patrol boats for the Hellenic Coast Guard. The agreement was finalized by Minister Vassilis Kikilias during a ceremony at the Ministry.
The vessels, identified as MAGNAR 1950 type, will be 21.29 meters long and are to be manufactured entirely in Greece by Viking Life-Saving Equipment Hellas at its facilities in Thebes. These boats are designed to reach speeds of at least 50 knots, cover distances of at least 320 nautical miles, and carry a crew of six with a transport capacity for at least 30 people.
The new fleet is intended to enhance operational capabilities in maritime surveillance, border protection, fisheries control, and search and rescue operations. The contract also includes an option to purchase up to seven additional similar vessels in the future. Delivery of the boats is expected within 6 to 12 months.
