Greece signs research and digital innovation agreements with leading academic and tech bodies

The National Observatory of Athens and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have signed a memorandum of cooperation to deepen joint research in space technologies, astronomy, atmospheric physics, satellite remote sensing and climate change. The agreement, highlighted by Deputy Development Minister Stavros Kalafatis, aims to position Greece as a hub for advanced scientific innovation and includes plans for joint proposals to national and EU funding programmes and the creation of a new interdisciplinary graduate programme.

In a separate pact, the Hellenic Association of ICT Companies (SETPE) and the Enterprise Greece Technology Agency (EKT) formalised a cooperation framework to enhance data management, digital infrastructure and artificial‑intelligence initiatives for Greek tech SMEs. The memorandum was signed at the Beyond 2026 exhibition in Athens and foresees knowledge exchange, training, support for participation in European projects and a round‑table discussion on AI opportunities and risks for the local IT sector.
