Greece state debts to private entities rise to €3.82 billion

Greek state debts to private entities, suppliers, and taxpayers rose significantly in August, reaching a total of €3.82 billion. This represents an increase of €552 million in a single month.

Overdue liabilities to businesses and suppliers reached €2.8 billion, up from €2.642 billion in July. Additionally, pending tax refunds surged by approximately 62%, exceeding the €1 billion threshold for the first time to reach €1.023 billion.

Public hospitals remain the largest debtors, owing €1.331 billion to suppliers. Social security organizations also saw an increase in obligations, totaling €733 million. Local government authorities reported debts of €329 million, while EOPYY owes approximately €280 million.

In response to these delays, which impact market liquidity, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance plans to launch the ‘Synepeia’ platform in December. This platform aims to increase transparency by publicly tracking and reporting the real-time payment status and outstanding amounts of state agencies.
