Greece public debt to private sector reaches €3.55 billion
Greek government liabilities to the private sector reached €3.55 billion in June, including €788 million in pending tax refunds. While total obligations to individuals and businesses decreased by €168 million from May, they have risen by €251 million since December 2025.
Public hospitals remain the largest debtors, owing €1.305 billion to suppliers, though this figure decreased by €214 million compared to May. Other significant debts include €715 million owed by Social Security Organizations and €333 million by Local Government Organizations.
To address high private debt levels, which exceed €210 billion, the government has implemented several restructuring options. These include fixed arrangements for 24 or 48 installments for tax obligations, a new 72-installment plan for debts overdue until December 2023, and an extrajudicial mechanism that can allow for up to 420 monthly installments and potential debt reduction. Over 7,000 applicants have already utilized the 72-installment option.
