Greece strengthens European pharmaceutical manufacturing base

A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) recently visited Greece to highlight the country’s role in strengthening the European pharmaceutical manufacturing base and supply chain security. The visit comes as the European Union seeks to reduce dependence on third countries by developing domestic production for medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Greece currently operates 51 drug production units and 31 Research & Development centers. The Tripoli Industrial Area has emerged as a significant hub for this sector, featuring major investments from companies such as DEMO, WinMedica (ELPEN Group), and FARAN. Specifically, the delegation visited DEMO’s new facilities dedicated to the development and production of oncology and penicillin-based pharmaceuticals.
