Greece submits 2027 draft budget targeting growth and debt reduction

The Greek government has submitted its 2027 draft budget to Parliament, outlining a strategy focused on sustained economic growth, debt reduction, and social support. Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis presented the plan, which projects a GDP growth rate of 2.3% for 2027 and 2% for 2026, significantly outpacing the Eurozone average.

Key fiscal targets include maintaining a primary surplus above 3% of GDP and reducing the public debt-to-GDP ratio to below 130% by 2027. The budget also anticipates a decrease in unemployment to 7.9% and a slowdown in inflation, projected at 2.4% for 2027.

To support households and businesses, the draft includes a 2.2 billion euro package of tax reliefs and income incentives. These measures aim to bolster consumption and provide stability amidst global uncertainties, such as energy market volatility and geopolitical tensions. The budget assumes a Brent oil price of 89 dollars per barrel. While macroeconomic indicators show improvement, officials noted that high energy costs and inflation remain significant risks to the projected economic stability.
