Greece to announce economic support package at IMF meetings

The Greek government is preparing a significant package of social and economic measures to be announced during the upcoming IMF Annual Meetings. The measures, estimated to exceed 1.4 billion euros, are aimed at addressing the cost of living, supporting families, and assisting the agricultural sector.

Key components of the plan include tax reforms for freelancers and small businesses, such as reducing tax advances and correcting presumptive income taxation. For the agricultural sector, the government intends to introduce a more stable and faster payment system for subsidies to reduce reliance on short-term loans, alongside managing bad debts for farmers and cooperatives.

Additional focus areas include energy cost mitigation for households and businesses, housing support, and measures for retirees. The government aims for these interventions to be felt by January 1, 2027, focusing on economic growth and the reduction of tax evasion as primary pillars for funding social dividends.
